Almenna Consulting is one of the leading engineering company in Iceland providing services in the municipal engineering sector. Design of water supply and distribution systems and of wastewater collections systems has always been major part of the company´s activities. Majority of the wastewater treatment plants in Iceland and related collection and outlet pipelines are designed by Almenna. Thease plants are all located on the southwest side of the country where 75 – 80 % of the population lives. The result of this work is clean coast from Reykjanes in south to Snæfellsnes in north. The newest project, Fráveitukerfi ABK, includes most of the municipal engineering sector, pipesystems for distribution of hot and cold water, pipesystems for collection of stormwater and wastewater, seawater bottom outlet piping, cable routes for distribution of electricity and digital data, pumpingstations and wastewater treatment plants. The project extends to three municiapalities where the main purpose is to collect, treate and discharge all wastewater into the seawater.
